GARY DOES: Summer Playlist

09.06.16 · Music

Summer vibes are upon us, and that means having the right tunes to soundtrack it. I’ve been collating from various sources and have rounded up my current favourite ear-ticklers that could soundtrack a BBQ, picnic in a park, warm up a party or just fill your ears with goodness.

There’s new Metronomy (always hotly anticipated), cool French vibes from Henri Texier and Bonobo, nu-skool Hip Hop from Anderson .Paak, the return of De La Soul, a loop of the original inspiration for the Kanye – No more parties in L.A tune, and more.

I’m looking forward to buying Kaytranada’s album on vinyl (the video is a cool nod to 'Robot and Frank') and can’t get that June Morrison loop out of my head. Badbadnotgood are an exquisite discovery (sample lyric: ‘Running away is easy, it’s the living that’s hard’) and Metronomy? Just keep getting better.

Press play, don’t be put off by the bass and bars from the grime triptych near the end (Ewok lyric – ‘Think you’re Donnie like Darko?’ – GENIUS). Enjoy and be inspired.

Tracklist includes: Badbadnotgood, De La Soul, Pete Josef, June Morrison, Henri Texier/Bonobo, Anderson .Paak, Serge Gainsbourg/Matthew Herbert, Metronomy, It’s a fine line, Kidkanevil, Skepta, Thiago Silva, Kaytranada, Eddy & Dus.
